Labour Party, LP, presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi has berated the federal authorities for utilizing the nation’s funds to sponsor civil servants for research overseas.
In a collection of tweets shared on Thursday, the previous Anambra governor insisted that utilizing taxpayers cash for such endeavors was inappropriate.
He argued that it was not smart to sponsor authorities officers to international universities whereas the Educational Employees Union of Universities (ASUU) is on strike.
Recently, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, came under fire for posting pictures of himself attending a Harvard University class.
Officials from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) recently attended an advanced leadership program at Judge Business School (JBS) at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Obi stated, that It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that public funds are not wasted on sponsoring government employees outside the country.
In accordance with him: “Our public universities have been shut since 14 February, some 5 months and counting. Our college students and future leaders are idling away at home or in some undesirable locations, whereas our authorities are spending tens of millions in international currency, supposedly training public holders in Ivy League universities across the globe.
“Such misplaced priorities and authorities misuse of public funds is not acceptable, whereas the way forward for our youths is being uncared for.
“By way of such neglect, we’re unwittingly breeding some societal misfits who will sometime embark on vendettas & take revenge on our society.
“As a matter of adaptive management, such training being sponsored with public funds ought to cease forthwith, till all our colleges begin functioning optimally.
“In the meantime, such trainings if want be, have to be mandated to occur solely inside Nigeria.”
